Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish’s Dhaka metropolitan unit on Saturday organised a protest rally in the capital, alleging repression and attacks on Muslims in different parts of India, particularly in West Bengal and Assam.
The programme, titled “Protest Rally and March Against Muslim Repression in West Bengal, Assam and Across India,” was held in front of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque following Asr prayers.
Hundreds of party activists and supporters joined the gathering, carrying banners and placards condemning what speakers described as “continued persecution” of Muslims in several Indian states.
Following the rally, participants brought out a procession that marched through key roads in the capital before concluding in the Bijoynagar area.
Addressing the rally, party leaders criticised the Indian government over what they alleged were ongoing attacks and discrimination against Muslims after recent legislative elections in some Indian states.
Speakers also criticised the Bangladeshi government for what they termed a “silent stance” regarding the incidents and urged authorities in Dhaka to take diplomatic initiatives, including summoning the Indian envoy in protest.
Anwar Hossain Razi, president of the party’s Dhaka North metropolitan unit, called on the media to highlight the issue more prominently.
“We urge the media to present the reality of what is happening in India. This is a time for responsible journalism and effective public awareness,” he said while addressing the gathering.
The rally ended peacefully amid the presence of law enforcement agencies in the area.
